This Feeling? Priceless!

Being a SAHD (stay-at-home-dad) is not an easy situation to find yourself in. Whether it’s by choice or circumstance, it is a challenging task that many persons don’t respect—or understand.

Despite that, I try my best to find enjoyment in the little golden moments that make themselves available. Like what? Like finding one of my son’s mismatched socks under the dresser. Or finding my daughter’s light-up ring under her pillow. Or deciding to leave the last piece of pumpkin pie for the children to share.

I had another little golden moment today. After an unsuccessful job search, I went to park the car by the children’s school to ensure a good spot. I heard the loud and carefree sound of children playing and noticed that it was my son’s class at recess.

When my son saw me, he ran over, beaming with his sunshine smile. I was greeted with a chorus of “Hi, Mr. Hampton!” from a bunch of sweaty little boys, running and playing football. I could not leave until I responded to each of them, who did their best to make sure I recognized them. They each wanted their moment with me because they appreciate what I do.

It’s all about the affirmation. You don’t get that feeling in power lunches, teleconferences, or peer bonding at the watercooler. You get that feeling when the individuals impacted by your influence recognize you.

That’s one of the things that makes it worthwhile for me: the affirmation. Someone showing appreciation. This Feeling? Priceless!

Go ahead, gentlemen. Find what it is that makes you tick. Whatever it is that makes you keep pressing on. Find your little golden moments and cherish them!

Take care, and incluence someone for good today :D
